Summer plans out west: WA, NM, CA

Turns out I won’t be attending FGC this year, though I did give it serious thought. It also turns out that if you cancel your FGC registration after June 14, as I did, they claim you owe half your registration fees, which in my case comes out to a whopping $300.

My first instinct was indignation. But then I verified that the cancellation policies were in fact well-advertised online and in the registration confirmation email — and remembered that I’m starting to want organizations that have enough money to run well. So I’m going to happily pay them the $300 sometime this year. (Though for the record, the Unitarians seem to get by with a maximum $60 cancellation fee…)

The Albuquerque Monthly Meeting meetinghouseI’m sad I’m not going, as I was hoping to meet some new people (and see some I already know). But I still will be going on vacation out west: first to Olympia, Washington at some point, probably mid-August, to visit my sisters who just moved there. I’d love to meet anyone in the area who wants to be friendly! I’ll probably go to Olympia MM if I’m there on a Sunday.

After that, I’m probably (80% sure) heading to Albuquerque, NM. If I’m there on a Sunday I’ll stop by Albuquerque MM (<-- article on Quakerpedia I just wrote), which I visited this winter. And there's a decent chance (30%) I'll get there via San Francisco. Possibly by car, in which case I might be able to stop off other places along the way.

If you’re in any of those places this summer and want to get a bite to eat together, let me know!

  • I am separated, as to bodily presence, from you; but I cannot forget you, because ye are written on my heart, and I cannot but desire your peace and welfare, as of my own soul.

And this is my present cry for you. Oh that ye might feel the breath of life, that life which at first quickened you, and which still quickeneth, being felt; and that breath of life has power over death; and being felt by you, will bow down death in you, and ye will feel the seed lifting up its head over that which oppresseth it.
